Lachie Henderson and Pick 12 to Carlton. This is scarey! Fev, Bradshaw and Brown in the one side although there cap must be splitting!

Bit of trading of picks. Hawks get 58 from Bombers pick 89. Must be part of Williams deal. ( wonder if this sets up another deal with the hawks)

Between news and rumour from yesterday, could a trade be in the works? Yesterday the news came out the All Australian Swan forward, Ryan O’Keefe, apparently was asked for a trade back to his hometown of Melbourne:

SYDNEY are in negotiations with star forward Ryan O’Keefe’s in a bid to talk him out of considering a return home to Melbourne, which would prompt a fierce recruiting contest between several Victorian AFL clubs. O’Keefe, 27, is out of contract and keen to return home after nine seasons with the Swans, the Ten Network reported. The Swans have offered the half-forward a three year-deal, but he is yet to sign.

Ryan O’Keefe set to fly the nest | Herald Sun

On the same night, 5AA host, Graham Cornes put out the rumour that Collingwood forward, Alan Didak, has told the club that he wants out even though he has a new 2 year contract. Could this be the perfect interchange? RoK (as Ryan is known in fan circles) wants to come home and wants to come to a contender. Collingwood have an exciting young side that need help up forward and the leadership that RoK could add.

Didak has had an interesting last two years on and off the field. Was almost All Australian himself this year. Had big off-field incidents over the last two years and its fair to say that he is a marked man in the Melbourne media. Any slightly false move will be reported in the papers here in Melbourne, some what harshly. Even his President, Eddie McGuire, not knowing he was doing so said there was “a time in your life when you have to get rid of scaly mates, let me tell you.” (source)

So what if Didak escape the scrutiny of Melbourne for the anonymity of Sydney for AFL footballers? It has worked for other bad boys/reluctant stars like Hall, Lockett and Spider Everitt. Perhaps the change of scene could be exactly what Didak needs to put these hard years behind him and allow him to show off those silky skills of his that makes our mouths drop at times. For Collingwood, O’Keefe would be just what the doctor ordered. Great talent, great character and most of all, great leader. The pies have lost two captains in two years and also lost a guy that probably would have been captain if he didn’t retire last year. Chris Judd showed that it is possible to step into a new club and take on the key on field leadership position and thrive. Could Ryan be the guy for the Pies.

If it comes that O’Keefe moves and doesn’t get traded for Didak, then a high price game of chicken starts! If Ryan and his preferred club want a bargain for him, then they O’Keefe has to be willing to go to one of the Bottom 5 clubs if Sydney call their bluff. O’Keefe has the right to veto any trade because and as he is out of contract can threaten to walk out on the club with the Swans getting nothing. So if he can handle playing for Melbourne, West Coast, Freo, Port or Essendon, he can push for his club of choice. If the Swans want anywhere near the best deal for them, they have to be willing to let him walk away for nothing. They have to put a line in the sand and say we won’t be pushed around. Hawthorn did this in the past with Jade Rawlings, forced him into the draft to the club that wanted him the most and was willing to trade for him and this set them up as hard traders. The following two years they got great deals for Nathan Thompson and Jonathan Hay that set them up for their 2008 flag.

So trade week is almost upon us and its going to be big. Stay tuned for all the news on trade week and the podcast will return soon.

Craig Hutchison was on the Footy show last night and he was speculating and interviewing and possibly crying.
He started off with an interview with the girlfriend of injured Tiger, Graham Polak. The interview wasn’t anything special apart from to hear that Graham is doing well and slowly doing a few of the normal things of life. The highlight of that interview though was when Hutchy asked this question: “Was it good to see that positive signs through out the week?” Purhaps surprising to Hutchy the answer was that the positive signs were good to see. I a pretty sure if he had asked if the negitive signs were bad to see, she would have said yes to that as well.

He then moved on to the news of the player in country footy that was jailed for 2 months for hitting a fellow player. The player, Trent Stanimirovitch, had priors. There was some talk of the old saying of “What happens on the Field stays on the field”. As I said around the time of the Hall/Staker punch, that is totally and complete nonsense and this is a positive out come for country footy!

He then brought up the Aker handstand including comments Aker made on SEN yesterday. He explained that it was done in tribute to his wifes grandfather. The clip is cut short and I would loved to hear the last part of the Aker comment. This is going to be a non-issue.

Last footy issue brought up was the claim that the Sydney Swans had launched a bid to get Brendon Fevola to Sydney for 3 million dollars over four years. Hutchy claimed that the Swans would be aggressive at the draft time in order to get him. Fev was on the panel (as you can see below) and wouldn’t comment on his contract situation. Sam got involved in his own funny style and put the heat on Fev in a funny manner. He did get out of him that he was going to Sydney with his Wife for a photo shoot. <NOTE: Swans today denied this report>

James Brayshaw made the comment that it wasn’t a crime to be talking to the Swans. My understanding is this is fact incorrect as I would have thought it was player tampering and that other sides weren’t allowed to talk to other teams players during the season. They claimed that he had talked to Sydney before he signed with his new management group.

Lastly Craig reported on Scott Lucas and Essendon coming to an agreement on his contract that was 1 year with an option for another 1 if very achievable conditions were meet.

The segment ended with perhaps the most entertaining part. (At around the 15min mark) Sam got up and started putting black shoe polish on his fore head that is much bigger then in the past due to the speedy recession of Hutchy’s hair line. Hutchy fired back by throwing a glass of water on Sam. Some have claimed they believed that Hutchy was crying, but you can make up your own mind as the video is below. What do you think of all the News and bickering?

Well there is such a thing as going to the well (or Match Review Panel) too often and it looks like it could be third time unlike for the man dubbed AFL’s Protected Species. Adam Goodes last night was charged with a Level 1 engaging in rough conduct charge after his second quarter bump on the Dee’s Clint Bartram at Manuka oval in Canberra on Sunday.

His past has caught up with him. This offense was assessed as 1 point for negligent conduct, 1 point for it only being low impact and 2 points as he hit Bartram in the head (aka high conduct). This earns Not so Goody Two shoes 125 points that after having added his carry over 93.75 from his bump a couple of weeks ago comes too, 218.75. If he chooses to accept the penalty, he will miss one match and carry over 64.06 points. It will also mean the end of his chances to break Jim Stynes consecutive games record. If he doesn’t take the early medicine, he would try his luck at the tribunal were the Swans have a good record of late but risk a two game holiday (3 weeks when you take the split round into consideration) which would mean he would not only miss the block buster with the Pies on the second week of the split round but would also miss a much anticipated match-up with fellow top 4 team, Hawthorn in round 15 (so as a Hawks fan, I hope he unsuccessfully challenges).

No word yet if the World Wide fund for nature is going to step in to try to defend this Endanger Species.

UPDATE: Goodes has decided that its better the devil you know and has accepted his medicine, taking the week. He will miss the big clash with the Pies but will be back to play the Hawks in Round 15 (D’oh!). This means his games streak ends at 204.
