Mike Sheahan’s Top 50
The Herald Sun released Mike Sheahan’s Top 50 players. This is his Preseason list where he try’s to predict who will have a great year. This list doesn’t have players under an injury cloud (probably the reason Trent Croad didn’t make the list). At a quick look at the list, it looks pretty good. Its hard to argue with Ablett at number 1, especially after his preseason form. Judd like wise and even after one preseason game, Buddy looks like carrying the injury riddled Hawks in the first month or so of the season. On a personal note, I am stoked that Mike recognised the ablilitys of Grant Birchall by putting him in at 49, Full list below:
AFL Draft 2009 – First Round

- West Coast – Nicholas Naitanui

Buddy getting no love from the umps?
Mark Stevens has written an interest piece in the Herald Sun paper today about the discrepency of Frees For and Frees Against for the Coleman Medal leading, Lance “Buddy” Franklin:
LANCE Franklin’s reputation as “Bad Boy Buddy” has hit new heights. The Hawthorn star, already the most penalised AFL player in the past four seasons, has endured a month from hell with the umpires. Franklin has conceded 16 free kicks and been awarded just two in his past four games.

Live Coaches Box Tonight (16/04/08 10:30pm (mel time))
Week 4 of the AFL season is behind us and Barry Hall is the big story. This will definitely be a big part of this weeks live Coaches Box podcast.
There are a number of ways to join us and the easiest is with the Talkshoe Pro client. I am using Skype Out which costs 3 odd cents per minute. If you want to call in, you might just want to call for your question on player reviews. The other option is a VOIP client. You can find out more about using Talkshoe with a VOIP client here.
I have left the info from last week below.
To join, come to our Talkshoe site any time from 15mins before the show is due to start. If you want to call in, there is a US number you can call (with something like Skype at 3 cents a minute), you can call in from a VOIP (SIP) compatible client (your miles may vary) or by downloading Talkshoe’s pro client here: http://download.talkshoe.com/TalkShoeSetup_windows.exe. I believe you have to sign up for a membership of the site, but it’s pretty painless.
Hope to see you there and have a great show! Also don’t fear, if you are unable to make it to the live show, the podcast will be available after the show is finished. Make sure you subscribe via iTunes so the show is ready on your iPod (or Computer) on Thursday morning for the day so you will be ready to work your teams before lockout!

Are AFL Players taking the Piss out of us, or just in pissing in Public!
There are many people that love to have a go at AFL Players and what they in public. Drunkenness, violence against women, speeding and drink driving! I for one have argued that these are young guys and that they will get into trouble like the rest of society and especially like males around there same age. This however has been a bad couple of weeks for AFL players. Last week, in the lead up to round one, serial idiot drunk Brendan Fevola was caught at 4am Urinating on the front window of a night club. Fev has a terrible record and his club decided that fining him over suspension but throwing out that this will be his last drinking related incident that would be dealt with as part of the Carlton Football Club. There CEO, Greg Swan, announced in a Press Conference announced that if Fev got caught in another Alcohol related issue, he would be sacked!
So after that you would think the last thing that any AFL players would got caught doing is pissing in public, right? Then along comes the Tigers and of all people, their Captain Kane Johnson!
RICHMOND captain Kane Johnson was arrested and locked up after being caught urinating on the wall of the St Kilda Rd police complex. Johnson, who was caught in the act by a policewoman and her colleague, was later bailed by police on a charge of being drunk in a public place.
Tinkle, tinkle little star | Herald Sun
There is no excuse for this! There is especially no excuse for this this week! There is especially no excuse for this from your captain! And it is definitely no excuse that the place you piss on is right next to your home. In fact, to me this is a huge negative that you were either too drunk or too stupid to walk up stairs to your place and piss in your own toilet! Now the kicker is, if your going to piss in public (as many of us have when we can’t find a toilet after a huge night out) why would you do it on the head quarters of the police?
Now Johnson does have a clean record but I am not buying that he has offered to stand out for one match. In my opinion the Tigers have to go further then fine him $5,000! They have to announce what suspensions they would give him and I also think that they have to remove him from the leadership group which means removing him as Captain. This story broke today, Easter Sunday, so lets give the Tigers a day or two to get their shit together (or should that be there piss)!
