I am disappointed by the Carlton decision today but I am committed to the future rather than the past.

Craig Hutchison was on the Footy show last night and he was speculating and interviewing and possibly crying.
He started off with an interview with the girlfriend of injured Tiger, Graham Polak. The interview wasn’t anything special apart from to hear that Graham is doing well and slowly doing a few of the normal things of life. The highlight of that interview though was when Hutchy asked this question: “Was it good to see that positive signs through out the week?” Purhaps surprising to Hutchy the answer was that the positive signs were good to see. I a pretty sure if he had asked if the negitive signs were bad to see, she would have said yes to that as well.

He then moved on to the news of the player in country footy that was jailed for 2 months for hitting a fellow player. The player, Trent Stanimirovitch, had priors. There was some talk of the old saying of “What happens on the Field stays on the field”. As I said around the time of the Hall/Staker punch, that is totally and complete nonsense and this is a positive out come for country footy!

He then brought up the Aker handstand including comments Aker made on SEN yesterday. He explained that it was done in tribute to his wifes grandfather. The clip is cut short and I would loved to hear the last part of the Aker comment. This is going to be a non-issue.

Last footy issue brought up was the claim that the Sydney Swans had launched a bid to get Brendon Fevola to Sydney for 3 million dollars over four years. Hutchy claimed that the Swans would be aggressive at the draft time in order to get him. Fev was on the panel (as you can see below) and wouldn’t comment on his contract situation. Sam got involved in his own funny style and put the heat on Fev in a funny manner. He did get out of him that he was going to Sydney with his Wife for a photo shoot. <NOTE: Swans today denied this report>

James Brayshaw made the comment that it wasn’t a crime to be talking to the Swans. My understanding is this is fact incorrect as I would have thought it was player tampering and that other sides weren’t allowed to talk to other teams players during the season. They claimed that he had talked to Sydney before he signed with his new management group.

Lastly Craig reported on Scott Lucas and Essendon coming to an agreement on his contract that was 1 year with an option for another 1 if very achievable conditions were meet.

The segment ended with perhaps the most entertaining part. (At around the 15min mark) Sam got up and started putting black shoe polish on his fore head that is much bigger then in the past due to the speedy recession of Hutchy’s hair line. Hutchy fired back by throwing a glass of water on Sam. Some have claimed they believed that Hutchy was crying, but you can make up your own mind as the video is below. What do you think of all the News and bickering?

The two Melbourne papers reported on Matthew Llyods comments on the Footy Show:

I reckon if Robert Murphy goes for that, all players would question whether you bother hip-and-shouldering because a goal might get lower or you might be hip-and-shouldering Brent Harvey and he’s so much smaller than you,” Lloyd said on Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show yesterday.

I have seen it said that Murphy should get off, but in some ways (not all just this point) his is the worst as the player he bumps is higher then all the others meaning he has to make a more deliberate move to get Ellis in the head.

In my opinion the most likely to get off (and I don’t think he will) is Waters as he at least touches the ball in his bump.

The two Melbourne papers reported on Matthew Llyods comments on the Footy Show:
I reckon if Robert Murphy goes for that, all players would question whether you bother hip-and-shouldering because a goal might get lower or you might be hip-and-shouldering Brent Harvey and he's so much smaller than you," Lloyd said on Channel Nine's Sunday Footy Show yesterday.

It worked. Partly because of Eddie McGuire’s ability to break big stories but mostly because of the pure brilliance of John “Sammy” Newman and what he could bring to the show.

Last year, Nine lost the rights and again tried to create a new football show to keep its footy relevants up. This time Footy Classified was born with co-hosts Gary Lyon (who at this time is also co-host of the Footy Show) being paired with Craig Hutchinson joined by Caroline Wilson and Wayne Carey.

The show was somewhat successful and continued to this day (with Archer replacing Carey). Last year Caro copped her fair share (perhaps more then her fair share) of ribbing about her looks (especially her braces on her teeth) and her dress. Even with all this, the past weeks Sam’s Mailbag took it to a new level. Have a look at the video below and towards the end, Sam takes the bagging of Caro’s dress sense to a whole new level!

April 3, 2008: Sam takes a look into the mailbag for the week.

Personally I don’t know whether you can blame Sam for this as its his job and its in his nature to play this sort of prank. To me Gary Lyon should take a good hard look at himself. Gary is the host of both the people involved (Sam and Caro) and so should have stuck up for his colleague, Caro. He could have easily told Sam to lay off or even checked with Caro if this was going to effect her as badly as it did. There was talk on Monday morning that she had quit the show. In the end she was still on the show but looked disappointed when it was discussed and Lyon said that he apologised to Caro earlier. If the video of this becomes available, I will put it on the show!

What do you think? Did Sam go to far? Is Caro being to sensitive? Should Gary have stopped Sam?

For many years now, a Thurday night during footy season involves watching the Footy Show on Channel 9. Do I watch it for Eddie or now Garry and James breaking the story? Do I watch to see what the teams are for the week? No and No. Mostly I watch to see what Sam Newman is going to do and who is going to take the piss out and to see what funny situation he is going to get himself into on street talk. In the last few weeks Sam was diagnosed with Prostate cancer and rather then me explain, have a look at this video of a 60 Minutes story by Sam’s good friend, Eddie MacGuire.

Sam Newman: Moment of Truth

Sam Newman’s struggle with prostate cancer has been captured by his mate, Eddie MacGuire.
