So the big team movement is Michael Barlow out and someone in for the Dockers. The Dockers also have a few issues down back. The Cats look set to get back not only Skipper Cameron Ling, but also Back Harry Taylor, and finals specialist Brad Ottens, although word is he will play as a perminent forward, which could stretch the Hawks defence as they have been known to have issues with resting ruckman. Talking of the Hawks defence, it could be strengthened by the return of Campbell Brown (although my gut felling says he would more likely play forward) and Josh Gibson but the loss of there skipper, Sam Mitchell, far out ways those ins.

Robbie Tarrant is to debut for the Roos the week that his brother, Chris, goes out for the dockers. Robbie has had a horrid run with injuries, so its good that he is returning. Michael Voss is talking up that Fev will return for the lions, but will he perform? Travis Boak is in the Mix for Port. Ben Cousins will miss after his interesting week and Liam Jurrah is in the mix for Melbourne.

But lets wait and see the teams, should be in soon (depending on when you read this). Maybe as important, who are you replacing Michael Barlow with in your DreamTeam/SuperCoach side?

UPDATE

Friday 5pm: Teams updated with late changes and final squads for Sunday games.

Thursday 5pm: Teams are in

Hunger. Is my English so poor (and anyone that reads this site often knows it is bad) that I don’t understand that its another name for injuries? Don’t think so. So its interesting that the media in general is reporting that the Hawks have their hunger back at exactly the same time their players are returning from injury. Does this mean that the Crows, Swans and Lions have lost their hunger? No, is the logical answer. They are losing their players!

The Swans have been hard hit with Bradshaw and Kennally both missing for a few weeks with them already missing there ruckman Seaby. They will get back Mufford from Suspension and possibly “The Lepper” Ben McGlynn, who if he returns, will play against his old side. On the Hawks, they have good injury news for the first time since there Grand Final win in 2008! There are only 3 players on there injury list, Bailey, Taylor and Gibson, all of who could be in the Hawks best line-up. The Lions have lost Jed Adcock again to a foot injury but its the injuries to Jono Brown and Fev are the ones that are troubling them as much as any.

Onto the lists. Remember to check back for updates.

Was listening to the new breakfast show on MMM (radio station) via there podcast from last week. It was a show just after the Fev brownlow incident but before Carlton announced they were willing to trade Fev. Although they had a couple of interviews with Fev, the interview that made me think wasn’t with Fev, but instead was with a “retiring” player. The interview kept hitting a question. Why are you retiring when you still are good enough to play? What if another side wanted you to play your preferred position that your current club had moved you out of?

You may already have guessed who I am talking about (and if you look at the image, you will be in no doubt) but let me step sideways into the world of American Football, the NFL. They had a famous Quarter Back, Brett Farve. Last year he was traded from his traditional club after he retired and came back, but that original club had already filled his position and he would have to sit on the bench to play for them. He had a mixed year and hung up the boots at the end of the season again. But come the near start of the season, and with a club perfect fit for him, he came back and already, 3 games in, has won his side a last minute victory.

So back to the AFL. Carlton look set to trade Fev and will have no Full Forward but there is a man waiting in the wings, who almost was a Blue at the start of his career (via the Father and Son rule). Matthew Lloyd! What a perfect fit this would be for the Blues. Needing a Full Forward, Lloyd getting the boot from Full Forward at the Bombers.

What do you think? Its an outside thought, but this is the sort of thinking that AFL teams have to get better at!

I am disappointed by the Carlton decision today but I am committed to the future rather than the past.

I will await with interest the outcome of trade week and will focus solely on the challenges and opportunities ahead.

The Fev contract dispute took an interesting turn yesterday when after comments where made about his behaviour in the contact negotiations and in his attidue in that he was huging and smiling with Saints players directly after his sides loss to them, Brendon decide off his own bat to call the station and confront the rumors (this interview is about).

Brett Ratten (Carlton Coach) on other radio stations put an Ultimatum to Fev. If you want to be with us, sign, if you don’t we will move on.

Ratten issued an ultimatum to Fevola that he should sign a contract extension or chase money elsewhere, but the star forward hit back on a rival station, denying he was “shopping myself around” and declaring there was “no way I’ll be leaving Carlton”.

Ratten lays it on the line for Fev | Herald Sun

From Fev’s comments, he will definitely be a Blue next year and the contract will get done. He also touches on other matters about his game.

<itunes:summary>The Fev contract dispute took an interesting turn yesterday when after comments where made about his behaviour in the contact negotiations and in his attidue in that he was huging and smiling with Saints players directly after his sides loss to them, Brendon decide off his own bat to call the station and confront the rumors (this interview is about).

Brett Ratten (Carlton Coach) on other radio stations put an Ultimatum to Fev. If you want to be with us, sign, if you don’t we will move on.
Ratten issued an ultimatum to Fevola that he should sign a contract extension or chase money elsewhere, but the star forward hit back on a rival station, denying he was "shopping myself around" and declaring there was "no way I'll be leaving Carlton".
Ratten lays it on the line for Fev | Herald Sun (http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl/story/0,26576,24010705-19742,00.html)

From Fev's comments, he will definitely be a Blue next year and the contract will get done. He also touches on other matters about his game.</itunes:summary>

Craig Hutchison was on the Footy show last night and he was speculating and interviewing and possibly crying.
He started off with an interview with the girlfriend of injured Tiger, Graham Polak. The interview wasn’t anything special apart from to hear that Graham is doing well and slowly doing a few of the normal things of life. The highlight of that interview though was when Hutchy asked this question: “Was it good to see that positive signs through out the week?” Purhaps surprising to Hutchy the answer was that the positive signs were good to see. I a pretty sure if he had asked if the negitive signs were bad to see, she would have said yes to that as well.

He then moved on to the news of the player in country footy that was jailed for 2 months for hitting a fellow player. The player, Trent Stanimirovitch, had priors. There was some talk of the old saying of “What happens on the Field stays on the field”. As I said around the time of the Hall/Staker punch, that is totally and complete nonsense and this is a positive out come for country footy!

He then brought up the Aker handstand including comments Aker made on SEN yesterday. He explained that it was done in tribute to his wifes grandfather. The clip is cut short and I would loved to hear the last part of the Aker comment. This is going to be a non-issue.

Last footy issue brought up was the claim that the Sydney Swans had launched a bid to get Brendon Fevola to Sydney for 3 million dollars over four years. Hutchy claimed that the Swans would be aggressive at the draft time in order to get him. Fev was on the panel (as you can see below) and wouldn’t comment on his contract situation. Sam got involved in his own funny style and put the heat on Fev in a funny manner. He did get out of him that he was going to Sydney with his Wife for a photo shoot. <NOTE: Swans today denied this report>

James Brayshaw made the comment that it wasn’t a crime to be talking to the Swans. My understanding is this is fact incorrect as I would have thought it was player tampering and that other sides weren’t allowed to talk to other teams players during the season. They claimed that he had talked to Sydney before he signed with his new management group.

Lastly Craig reported on Scott Lucas and Essendon coming to an agreement on his contract that was 1 year with an option for another 1 if very achievable conditions were meet.

The segment ended with perhaps the most entertaining part. (At around the 15min mark) Sam got up and started putting black shoe polish on his fore head that is much bigger then in the past due to the speedy recession of Hutchy’s hair line. Hutchy fired back by throwing a glass of water on Sam. Some have claimed they believed that Hutchy was crying, but you can make up your own mind as the video is below. What do you think of all the News and bickering?
