2009 AFL Trade week – FEV DEAL DONE! (Final result)
<CLICK HERE FOR CURRENT DRAFT ORDER>
Trade week starts today and with the new rules and the Gold Coast sucking the oxygen out of the upcoming draft, trades are coming thick and fast. Here are the trades as they get done.
DONE DEAL
- Josh Gibson and Pick 69 from North Melbourne to the Hawks for Pick 25 and 41
- Brisbane reporting that they have picked up Andrew Raines from the Tigers for Pick 44 (Lions third round pick)
- Melbourne will trade Brock McLean to Carlton for Pick 11
- Three way trade with: Brisbane gets Buchanan & Staker & Pick 28. West Coast gets Dalzeill and pick 22. Sydney gets Seaby and Pick 39.
- Sydney and Bulldogs are
talking overtraded Barry Hall. Swanswantget a 3rd Round pick (47) from the Dogs and Both teams will announce later some swapping of later picks aw - Essendon are shipping Andrew Lovett to St Kidla for there first pick in the draft, pick 16.
- Brisbane sent pick 47 to Sydney for pick 39. Must of been part of the three way deal
- Fremantle will be sending Brett Peake back to Victoria to play with the St Kilda in exchange for pick 48
- Sydney have traded Darren Jolly to Collingwood for Picks 14 and 46. UPDATE:
This is said to be official but not showing up on the official trade board. Its Now Official - Port have traded Mitch Farmer to Richmond for Jay Schulz. (It makes me sad that he wasn’t traded to Geelong so they had Schulz and Hogan in the same side)
-
Hawks have obtained Shaun Burgoyne, Port has received Jay Nash and Picks 9, 16 and 97, Essendon has received Mark WIlliams with Pick 24 and 33 and just for good measure, the Cats got involved and picked up picks 40, 42 and 56. (wow)
- The Swans have obtained Shane “The Amazing” Mumford from the Cats for pick 28
- St Kidla have traded Xavier Clarke to Brisbane for pick 60
- Hawks have reluctantly sent Ben “Leper” McGlynn and Josh “Joey” Kennedy to Sydney for Picks 39,46 and 70
- Fremantle have sent Marcus Drum to the Cats in exchange for pick 49
- Brendan Fevola and pick 27 to Brisbane. Lachie Henderson and Pick 12 to Carlton. This is scarey! Fev, Bradshaw and Brown in the one side although there cap must be splitting!
- Bit of trading of picks. Hawks get 58 from Bombers pick 89. Must be part of Williams deal. ( wonder if this sets up another deal with the hawks)
Could the Blues already have a replacement for Fev in the wings?
Was listening to the new breakfast show on MMM (radio station) via there podcast from last week. It was a show just after the Fev brownlow incident but before Carlton announced they were willing to trade Fev. Although they had a couple of interviews with Fev, the interview that made me think wasn’t with Fev, but instead was with a “retiring” player. The interview kept hitting a question. Why are you retiring when you still are good enough to play? What if another side wanted you to play your preferred position that your current club had moved you out of?
You may already have guessed who I am talking about (and if you look at the image, you will be in no doubt) but let me step sideways into the world of American Football, the NFL. They had a famous Quarter Back, Brett Farve. Last year he was traded from his traditional club after he retired and came back, but that original club had already filled his position and he would have to sit on the bench to play for them. He had a mixed year and hung up the boots at the end of the season again. But come the near start of the season, and with a club perfect fit for him, he came back and already, 3 games in, has won his side a last minute victory.
So back to the AFL. Carlton look set to trade Fev and will have no Full Forward but there is a man waiting in the wings, who almost was a Blue at the start of his career (via the Father and Son rule). Matthew Lloyd! What a perfect fit this would be for the Blues. Needing a Full Forward, Lloyd getting the boot from Full Forward at the Bombers.
What do you think? Its an outside thought, but this is the sort of thinking that AFL teams have to get better at!
BREAKING NEWS: Why Why Why Fevola? Fev to be traded
It has just been announced after the poor performance at the Brownlow, Carlton have had enough and are going to trade Fev in next weeks trade week.
Here is a snippett from a statement from Fev on his managers website (rest can be seen by following link below):
I am disappointed by the Carlton decision today but I am committed to the future rather than the past.
I will await with interest the outcome of trade week and will focus solely on the challenges and opportunities ahead.
I am committed not just to being the very best player I can be but also to rectifying off-field issues.
The club has said that they will no comment further until there is more news. Stay tunned!

Fev loses it – Call from Triple m
The Fev contract dispute took an interesting turn yesterday when after comments where made about his behaviour in the contact negotiations and in his attidue in that he was huging and smiling with Saints players directly after his sides loss to them, Brendon decide off his own bat to call the station and confront the rumors (this interview is about). Video: Hutchy gets the sam treatment (Plus the real news)
Craig Hutchison was on the Footy show last night and he was speculating and interviewing and possibly crying.
He started off with an interview with the girlfriend of injured Tiger, Graham Polak. The interview wasn’t anything special apart from to hear that Graham is doing well and slowly doing a few of the normal things of life. The highlight of that interview though was when Hutchy asked this question: “Was it good to see that positive signs through out the week?” Purhaps surprising to Hutchy the answer was that the positive signs were good to see. I a pretty sure if he had asked if the negitive signs were bad to see, she would have said yes to that as well.
