Happy New Year – New AFL Season

2009

Well January is coming to a close and I want to wish all the fans (or is that fan) of the Machination a Happy New year and a successful 2009 (just only Premiership success if you follow the Hawks).

2008 was a pretty good year that saw a great year of footy, not just because the Hawks won, but because the footy was tight, some great stories came out, some boneheads acted like boneheads, two players where racing to kick the ton in the last round of footy, the final 8 ended in a way no one would have predicted on the last game of the season and although the finals were probably a bit of a disappointment, the Grand Final was a classic with arguably the two best sides fighting off. Champ vs Challenger. Huge Favorite vs Young underdog. Apollo Creed vs Rocky and in the end Rocky put away the Champ when the champ stumbled (perhaps the better boxing analogy would be Foreman vs Ali and the rope-a-dope with the Hawks surviving the Cats barrage and coming back late).

This site had a lot of changes last year with me trying to write more and failing miserably! This attempt dictated that I tried to change the site to have a more magazine/newspaper look to it and with the lack of content, it just didn’t work. So this year, my hope is to change again and get back to what I enjoy most and that is recording stuff instead of writing it! So I hope have more podcasts a week and maybe reintroduce the Video Edition. So the thinking is that I want to record the Machination Thoughts on the game Monday or Tuesday. Maybe a review of the round Monday or Sunday. I want to (with my co-host, Monty (don’t forget to go to FanFooty for all your Dream Team news and strategies) approval) throw in the Coaches Box Fantasy Football podcast show in on Wednesday. Thursday have the teams show and Friday, we will see. Now of course these probably won’t come out like this in the end (heck I having trouble coming back after such a long layoff already) but this is the sort of goal for the show.

What do you guys think? Are you happy to have more shows turn up, even if you don’t want them? Do you want video of me sitting in my room or should I stick to audio? Would a team show, with the teams be useful?

The other thing I am going to do is bug people I find to either write or talk to me. Perhaps bug someone to come on a talk the Dream Team. If people are out there with a Computer, a Headset and Skype and a love of the other 15 teams, do they want to come on and talk about them? If you are in the category, let me know. We will see how this thing plays out. Perhaps it will work, perhaps it will be a complete failure. Time will tell.
