I know a lot will rightly say this is how it had to be but you can’t help feel for Ben Cousins, as you would feel for any person that has thrown their life (or part of it) away due to drugs. Today Ben has hit rock bottom, his contracted terminated by the Eagles and his football career over with it unlikely t
hat any club would pick him up (assuming the AFL doesn’t ban him further). Here is the start of the statement made by Eagles Chairman Elect Mark Barnaba (rest of the statement available by following the link):
At a special meeting today, the West Coast Eagles board decided to terminate the contract of Ben Cousins because he has seriously breached the conditions and spirit of the revised contract under which he returned to the club several months ago
Cousins is facing serious charges of:
One count failing to Comply with Requirement to Provide Blood and 1 count Possess Prohibited Drug.
It is not 100% clear what sort of Drug that is. There is some speculation that it may have been a pain killer, a drug used with depression or possibly Viagra.
Cousins faces court tomorrow and more details should be available then.
